EVERYONE HAVE A SAFE JOURNEY HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!!!!

TRAVEL BLOG LAREDO/LAS VEGAS

FEB 26TH- MAR 15TH,

After arriving back from the long journey from Las Vegas, it was great to be home to get ready to start the race season off on a very positive note!!

For the entire month, we ran the roads around Mooresville, N.C. pretty heavy! Between going back and forth to Smith Fab; going to Evernham Motorsports for motors, along with dyno runs at Evernham Motorsports in Statesville, N.C., we kept busy!! Not to mention all the vendors in the Concord, N.C. area, along with HOPKINS Chassis in S.C.

By the time the end of the month came around, I was ready for a long road trip and it came in the form of leaving for Laredo, Texas for the famous switching of the cars that would be headed to Mexico City. I had to be there in time to meet the #22 SUPERCUTS/FAMILY DOLLAR Tranporter, piloted by Scott Clodfelter, with the assistance of his father, Bill Clodfelter.

We arrived at the checkpoint that was again this year at the WERNER ENTERPRISES Terminal in Laredo. UPS had set up a area for us to do the car switch, along with having government officials from both countries on hand to make sure passports and the transporters paperwork was in correct order. I knew it would be, because Jill Deel-Ramsey that handles our human resources department, also helped to prepare the proper documentation for the journey across the border. Jill knows how to GET IT DONE!!!!!!

Now Scott, Bill and myself met at the yard, and immediately went to work on getting the exchange completed. And completed we did! Even with 90 degree temps outside, the three of us completed everything, that was taking twice the personnel with other teams to complete; some even needed the second day to get their equipment right! Okay, I had to give us a pat on the back for that one, because we are sometimes out numbered, but never trailing behind in the kick butt work department!!!

Now came the suprise; I had to get the previously raced California cars back to the shop, double time!!! I drove back to N.C. pretty much stopping only for fuel; jerky and a cup of coffee now and then. I arrived back at the shop, but, there was not time for sleep, I still had to keep the ball rolling with the cars I had in my transporter. So, rolling back in the building, I headed right out to get the cars to SMITH FAB, and made sure to unload all excess equipment I had brought back from the #22 hauler. After being awake for about 42 hours on pure adrenaline and a protein diet of jerky and the water provided to us by the wonderful folks from COCA-COLA; DASANI, I went home and slept like "Princess Charming" was going to have to pucker up to wake me up after all that get and go!

Now, came the next test of my willingness to get the job done, and well, I gave the "ED" answer, it will get done!!!!!

I left Mooresville, N.C. around 6pm on March 5th, headed back to what I was starting to call my second home, Las Vegas, to transport the SUPERCUTS DODGE CHARGERS that were on the way to meet David Stremme's approval for the layout of the newly refurbished LAS VEGAS SPEEDWAY.

The bets had been placed I would not make the 2200 mile journey on the time frame needed, but, crew chief Paul Wolfe told me that I always stepped up for these type of challenges, but team manager, Bill Farnsworth aired his concerns. I let all parties involved know I had a secret recipe to get there. No, I did not call in a favor with the AIR NATIONAL GUARD to fly me to VEGAS on a C-5 or larger transporter, but, I knew there was something to that jerky and DASANI Water combination I had tried coming from Laredo, Texas the week before.

I pulled into the staging area of the Las Vegas Speedway 48 hours, 2200 miles, and one blown out trailer tire later. That trailer tire cost me four hours in Knoxville, Tn., but the GOOD LORD made sure I was close to a PILOT TRUCK STOP to get the help I needed.

After letting out a large heaving sigh of relief, I then had to muster up the energy to do another car switch with Scott and Bill Clodfelter. I swear, those cars seemed heavier in Las Vegas than they did in Laredo. So, in about two hours, we were on the way to our home for the week; THE STRATOSPHERE HOTEL AND CASINO.

Thanks to Robin Johnson and all the wonderful staff at the STRATOSPHERE!!! They can be found at WWW.STRATOSPHERE.COM; or call them at 800-99-TOWER; or just stop in at 2000 LAS VEGAS BLVD. SOUTH, LAS VEGAS, NV. 89104.

I spent my 45th birthday, which was March 8th, enjoying live music and crowd watching while taking in a cold beverage or two. Everyone will not believe this, but, I've not gambled since my first trip to VEGAS since MARCH, 2006. YES, THAT IS CORRECT!!! I spent a total of 31 days in lovely LAS VEGAS from March 2006 until March 2007, and only gambled one time, and that was MARCH, 2006. There is more to do in VEGAS than just gamble, you can bet on it!!!

So, I was now there to do show car work also. We had taken the FAMILY DOLLAR/MEXICO CITY Race Cars and put them on display in the main lobby area of the STRATOSPHERE. I would do improptu talks with fans and staff alike. It was a great week; the fans were awesome to the point that I know Las Vegas deserves a second NASCAR BUSCH and NEXTEL CUP Event!!!

FITZ MOTORSPORTS had a great day, with David Stremme bringing the SUPERCUTS CAR to a fifth(5th) place finish at the line. Congrats to Jeff Burton and the #29 HOLIDAY INN Team for an exciting finish with Kyle Busch doing a second place using his rearview mirror....

Thanks to also all the staff at HARRAH'S HOTEL AND CASINO for letting us live it up at their outdoor bar and night club; special thanks to the CROWN ROYAL PR GIRLS and also, the MILLER LITE PR GIRLS; they made sure we had plenty of shirts and their products to try!!!

Well, we had to make it back from Las Vegas to do what the year before was a snowball fight, race, and nearly freezing to death; BRISTOL BABY!!!!

BRISTOL UPDATE NEXT POST

VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!

JANUARY 27-31, 2007

Okay, Okay; please stop the e-mails and the phone calls of why the website has not been updated since my trip to Spokane Washington.

After leaving from Spokane, I drove to Las Vegas to drop off my rig and catch a flight home to prepare to come back to Las Vegas to do our sponsor, SUPERCUTS, national convention.

After arriving in Vegas on the 27th; I did what any red blooded All-American man would do; go to bed and sleep for 13 hours...okay; I had to get ready for a long convention!!

After setting up the show car inside the convention center of the MGM GRAND; I was forwarded the option to do public relations work for FITZ MOTORSPORTS, and to get to do some sightseeing and well deserved party time!

The SUPERCUTS/REGIS CORPORATION know how to put on a first rate convention! Everything was done as a top notch production level, with the FITZ MOTORSPORTS/SUPERCUTS Dodge Charger having a prominent position at stage right, with amazing illumination from the lighing crew of BIG TIME EVENTS out of Minneapolis, MN. It made the car look like it was doing 200 miles per hour (SEE 200MPH DESIGNS WEBSITE; OUR WEBMASTER) sitting still!!!

Now, the next paragraph has to be, let us say, very limited in description, but, giving the reader an idea of how much fun that the SUPERCUTS FAMILY truly can be!!!

MGM GRAND is just that: GRAND!!!!!!!!!!! The MGM GRAND contains a replica of the infamous 70's club, STUDIO 54, which for years was the ultimate and sometimes the most exclusive party palace in New York City. The MGM has put together the same atmosphere in their version of STUDIO 54.

On Monday night, January 29th, "a day that should be a national holiday for all SUPERCUTS Associate and Franchisees" alike; STUDIO 54 was reserved for a private party for all the convention attendees.

Now, "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"!!! So, all I can say is that the SUPERCUTS Folks know how to have a good time at the level they cut hair...enough said!

Now, one personal thought; if anyone reading this ever decides he wants to commit a crime against our country or allies for 72 virgins; I'm hear to let you know; if you had been with me at STUDIO 54 with 1800 women of the SUPERCUTS "Brigade"; you and I would of been having a plate of bacon and eggs, with a pork chop biscuit, with a pork tenderloin on the grill, talking about the great time we had at STUDIO 54; and you would have a diffrent view about those "72 virgins" and the "GOOD OLE USA"!!!!!!!!!

So, after STUDIO 54, it was off to a non-stop night of dancing at COYOTE UGLY'S at the NEW YORK NEW YORK HOTEL AND CASINO. WOW; what a happening place!!! It was the best COYOTE UGLY'S I'd ever been to; I mean; VEGAS IS VEGAS BABY!!!!!! I highly recommend this to all that want to let their hair down; remember, the fine folks at SUPERCUTS can put it back up for you the next day!!

I left Vegas on January 31st, headed for my 2200 mile cross country trip with memories for a life time; maybe for two life times!!!

As you can see no names were mentioned; this was to protect the innocent; then again: "Were any of us innocent"???

THANKS SUPERCUTS FOR A WONDERFUL TIME AND BEING SUCH A WONDERFUL SPONSOR FOR THE RACING EFFORTS OF FITZ MOTORSPORTS; "IT TAKES THE WORD WORK OUT OF WORKING TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH YOU FOLKS"!!!!!

HAPPY NEW RACE SEASON YEAR!!!

FEB. 18TH,2007 DA

Well, it is time to catch up on where the whirlwind of racing has taken me to since Dec. 30th, 2006.

I left for a cross country trip with the SUPERCUTS.COM Showcar in tow to head to Spokane, Washington for a promotion for SUPERCUTS; the sponsor of the #22 FITZMOTORSPORTS DODGE CHARGER in the NASCAR BUSCH SERIES.

In leaving on December 30th, I knew my New Year's Eve plans were out the window. I was not sure where I would be watching the ball drop, or where I may have to be to make my scheduled time, especially with the weather forecasts not looking too promising.

I'm so Blessed with having made such great friends that I still have in my corner that I've met over my many years on the racing road. One of those great people is Mary Ann Petrino and her sons, Josh and Jason of Nashville, Tn. (actually Ashland Park).

Mary Ann was kind enough to provide me with a place to stay, and to top it off, had my truck and trailer secured at a local storage faciltiy while I waited out the New Years Holiday.

I spent a quiet evening catching up on e-mails, planning my journey; getting weather updates with potential blizzard conditions getting ready to set in the Pacific Northwest. I had to stay disciplined for my next day of travel; in other words; NO PARTIES!!!!!

I left the Nasville, Tn. area on New Years Day morning; saying goodbye to my friends, and their dog, which they named Buddy; but, my crazy sense of humour came out one day and called him "Buddy Love"; the character that Jerry Lewis created in the 1960's movie, "The Nutty Professor." (Sorry Eddie Murphy; Jerry Lewis's version is my fav). So now, he is called Buddy Jean Love Simmons; unfortunately, I was unable to put my adopted child on my tax return...or did I???

I left for the journey that most Nascar Busch Series Transport Drivers never get to see; especially in the middle of winter in full swing.

Now, the states that were to follow were new to me and some were old friends. Crossing into Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and then into Washington.

Arriving into Spokane was a sigh of relief! After driving on ice in Montana; snow and ice in Idaho; the light snow of Spokane was, well, a welcome sight, and yes, my NEXTEL Phone started working again! You do not know how dependent you/I/we have become with cell phones. For two days I was without service. I actually found my old BELLSOUTH Phone Card, and it had been so long since I had used same, I had to blow the dust off the account numbers to make a call. Now I know what Lewis and Clark felt like trying to come across country without their cell phones working properly...

After arriving at the wrong hotel; okay, it was a 50/50 shot; I mean the Red Lion Hotels are great, but, there are two on the same street...I mean they have diffrent names underneath the banner, but, how is a guy to know? So after leaving the registration desk, and the lady at the first Red Lion making me feel like I was Michael Waltrip "at the wrong track", I got my composure back and went to the correct location.

Now SUPERCUTS knows how to hook a man up; I mean a king size bed; riverfront view, and a hotel with great ammenities. When in Spokane, I highly recommend the (or at least one of them) Red Lion Hotel/Riverfront.

Now in preparing to do my show car appearance, I thought I had stumbled into a modern episode remake of the 1978 classis 'ANIMAL HOUSE'. There were students all over the place, I mean literally, all over the place; hallways; corridors; rooms; bar; restaurant; I'm sure some in closets even, studying up for their upcoming inter-collegiate debates. I had to play the devil's advocate a few times.......I mean, it was like being married without the marriage certificate...I had to stir the pot; except, I threw a few of those nice young future leaders of America into a blender with a fire house on their heads... Okay, it was all in fun, and yes, it was great to see that our country is in the good hands of some very capable future leaders.

On Friday, January 5th, 2007, I headed to the Spokane Arena to put the show car on display for driver Carlos Contreras; and to promote SUPERCUTS as they were doing a cross marketing project with the SPOKANE CHIEFS Hockey Team. Some lucky fan will be getting all access and then some at the upcoming race at the Las Vegas Motorspeedway on March 10th, 2007.

Now, I know about as much about hockey, as I do writing articles for this website, but, I try to learn something new everyday. My fellow team member and part time driver, Carlos was given the honor of being an "Honorary Referee" to put out the puck to start the game. Instead, Carlos got the suprise of his life! The players were more interested in punching each other out as soon as Carlos dropped the puck on the ice (had to spell check the word puck) and settle old scores, than to play the game!

Carlos came back to the show car, which was on display of the front entrance of the Spokane Arena. He was asking me about the rules of engagement in hockey; I told him that it is a team effort to be every man for himself...or so I thought. Now being from North Carolina, home of the CAROLINA HURRICANES, based in Raleigh, N.C., our state capitol; and recently named numero uno place to live in the good ole USA by FORBES MAGAZINE, I'm still trying to learn about hockey, and my friends from Canada think that it is a shame that "a bunch of rednecks" have the Stanly Cup in North Carolina. I told em' we would be drinking moonshine from it on a regular basis, instead of Molson!

Now as the evening went on, I found out what NASCAR may know by now: there are rabid NASCAR Fans in the Pacific Northwest!!! We were given such a warm and V.I.P. welcome, that I immediately said: NASCAR needs to put a track up here for these folks, and maybe take a date away from tracks that, in my opinion are really not up to par in some areas to have the privilege of having two dates! It would be supported by the masses! I know things are in the works, but I've heard that rhetoric before from track owners on expansion.

I would like to thank, Sara, Patti with REGIS CORP./SUPERCUTS; you ladies know your stuff on how to take care of the fans; thanks to Claudia and Jerry with the local SUPERCUTS Stores, and all the fine employees I had the honor to meet and work with.

Thanks to Andy and all the fine staff of the Spokane Arena; they are a class act, and know how to put an event on like no other.

Thanks to all the fine folks at DISHMAN DODGE, located at 7700 E. Sprague Ave., Spokane Valley. We enjoyed spending our Saturday, January 6th, with you fine folks. Congrats on the new building, and we wish you much sales success! Marti and her top notch sales staff can be reached at 1-877-568-3362 for the much needed auto purchase!

And a super special thanks and shout out goes to Dave Allen, owner of RACING LIMOS/WWW.RACINGLIMOS.COM. Dave was so gracious to take Carlos to the airport for his departure to Denver, CO. to finish his vacation with his family. It was also great to ride around Spokane in a limo to check out the scenery and local restaurants. If you need a limo, call Dave Allen at (509) 279-0545.

Thanks to locals for the front row seats for the Saturday night game of the Spokane Chiefs. Danny was gracious enough to help me out on some of the happenings of the game. I'm working on a new book: "Hockey for Dummies."

As the snow was falling, I pulled out of Spokane knowing one thing; I wanted to return with race cars on my trailer to race at the new track they will hopefully one day have!

My next update will be of the SUPERCUTS Convention in Las Vegas, NV. NAMES WILL BE CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT

VIEWS EXPRESSED ARE THAT OF CONTRIBUTOR ED SIMMONS AND NOT THAT OF THE RACE CREW JOBS STAFF AS A WHOLE.
