Now that we have a basic understanding of Dynamic HTML, let's talk about Forms and Databases and how they can ease your maintenance time and drive the look and feel of your site, while providing the latest content.
The following is a brief explanation and it is followed by an interactive example for you to use to actually see how it all works and how simple it is!
Databases are simply a collection of info stored in tables similar to Excel spreadsheets. The information can be used for a variety of things. Mailing lists, Site News, Site Archives, Schedules, Results, Standings, Links, Members, Contests, etc. The uses are unlimited.
On our Sites Page you will see the sites we have developed and are working with. InsideThePitbox.com is a news/editorial site with new content every day. Actually the content changes constantly throughout the day as Press Releases come in and as the writers post their articles. The task on the webmaster would be unbelievable had it not been for Forms and Databases. If you look at the main page:
you will see: Articles by the staff writers, guest articles, the race schedule, links to Jayski, NASCAR press releases, Other press releases, Site News and a Network News Feed. All of these are database driven and the website displays the current information in the database. How does the info get to the database? Check out the following page for an interactive example of just how easy this is.
